Users’ possibilities
Release of protection of workstations can be initiated by users since it might be required to take data out of the system. (for example, to take away presentation files using a pendrive in order to give a presentation). To request release of protection, a user needs to open the user interface related to release of protection and enter the following data:
- reason of request to release protection
- name or type of the file/files
- duration requested for release
- which peripheral device(s) should be released.
Requests initiated by users can be evaluated in two ways:
1. Most requests will be replied to by built-in intelligence based on rules pre-defined by administrators. If these are fulfilled, requests for release are evaluated automatically, without human intervention. When pre-defined parameters are set, it can be considered what group a user belongs to, what rights they have and what parameters the file they wish to copy has. (For example, a setting can stipulate that anybody can copy files with the extension .mp3 but only members of the management can copy Word files with the extension .doc to their pendrives.) Of course, the parameters that can be set enable construction of much more detailed rule systems than this.
2. Requests not allowed by the built-in intelligence are transformed into unique requests, the execution of which can be decided by administrators. Of course, automatically and individually permitted copy activities are logged by the system in full detail so that it may be traced later who copied what files from the system, and when.
