It is very easy to steal data. That is, it was. Until now. Data Defender is KÜRT's latest security product, which controls all data output connectors of computers, thereby eliminating one of the most significant security risks - unauthorised copying, saving and use of data, in one word, stealth of data.
Thanks to its unavoidable protection functionality, built-in intelligence and outstanding management features, Data Defender is a uniquely efficient information security tool.
Where and why is this protection needed?
Stealth of data is one of the largest threats among risk factors of IT security. Our experiences, based on over two hundred information security projects, and security statistics, show that the majority of attacks and stealth attempts begin within organisations.
Attacks coming from inside are enabled by various interfaces of computers, ranging from floppy/CD/DVD drives to infrared, Bluetooth and network adaptors to USB connectors. Modern high-speed ports are especially dangerous, as are data storage devices that can be connected and that can hold a huge volume of data in a very small size.
Anybody (even an offended or a profit-seeking colleague) can copy a vast volume of data to such devices from unattended computers and then leave the organisation’s site unnoticed.
It is often necessary to grant full access rights to users with regard to a certain set of information so that they may carry out their tasks. However, organisations would not like them to copy this information and take it with themselves, which is, nevertheless, not prevented by the access rights mechanism of operating systems.
The solution
Client/server-based, centrally administrable and manageable Data Defender can be used to prevent unauthorised data access on any workstation. Featuring built-in intelligence, this software product monitors all data movement on all existing output interfaces of workstations.
A Data Defender administrator can use a central user interface to set which users or groups are granted which rights. (For example, they can set it up so that a certain user or group may only read from, and not write onto, pendrives.)
Meanwhile, usability of computers is not affected; other devices (mice, keyboards, etc.) connected to connectors continue to be operable.
One may wonder whether, by using Data Defender, nobody will be able to use pendrives or write CDs or DVDs any more, or else they will have to wait forever for the administrator’s permission to do so. Luckily, this is not the case since prohibition of copying can be released at a users’ request for a period defined as required and such releases can be automatic, that is, instant, thanks to built-in intelligence. Of course the system logs both the requests and the data movements.
